If you’ve read poems on my blog for any amount of time, you’re probably familiar with the works of Ivy. In fact, this is her seventh submission to Poetry Thursday, which is more than any poet aside from myself. This is partially due to her willingness to submit poems, but it also seems to come out of conversations she and I have. In fact, we were talking sometime this last week (as we are wont to do), and she wrote what became the first line of this poem. It wasn’t intended to be a poem, but struck me so well that I commented on it, and remarked that it should be the start of some sort of a poetic thing. She agreed, turned it into a sonnet that addressed some of the issues we had been conversing about, and then we agreed upon a title. I suspect that if you like sonnets and a commentary on social networking, you’ll find something to like here. Christ Abide.

Having a ‘space’ that you can call your own online has become a commodity some value almost as much as the ‘space’ that belongs to them in the physical realm. For some, that ‘space’ is simply their e-mail inbox. For others, starting and maintaining a blog provides a place to both be organized and have control. For many internet-going people who desired a ‘space’ of their own, Facebook became that place. Read more…
