My cat has no memories of a time when I was smaller than I currently am. In fact, my cat seems to think I’m worth hunting because I fight back pretty well, and at the end of the day that is what he is looking for: a sparring partner. Either that, or my cat does not have the mental capacity to know what he is looking for. In fact, that seems much more likely. This week’s poem comes from Jonathon Thigpen, who has posted here before. I asked him to write a Christmas poem, since Christmas is coming this Saturday. After writing on Christmas earlier this week, this poem fits quite well with the general theme of the week. I do not intend on putting up a Weekend Reflections post until after Christmas (probably on Sunday), so, from myself and all of my contributors, Merry Christmas. Today’s poem comes from someone for whom I have much respect, but have never actually met. Every other poet I’ve featured has been someone I have least met, if not spent a considerable amount of time with (be that in school, church, or otherwise). I “met” Jonathon Thigpen on facebook through a mutual friend, who claimed we look alike. While I’m not sure how much we resemble one another, I’ve certainly come to appreciate his opinion on anything we’ve discussed. Even this poem covers a similar topic to a poem I’ve written, which just goes to show how much we think alike. He’s provided good comments on this blog (be that publicly or to me personally), and it is an honor to have him contribute. Read more…
