I’ve written a few posts prior to this that have interacted with the story overall, and then with the particular moral issues of one mission (and using that as a place to properly discuss the moral issues on the whole), but I wanted to take a bit of time to talk about the final mission of Mass Effect 2. Well, another week another game, it seems. I managed to finish Mass Effect 2, and I’ve just started into the third game. I’ll use this post to wrap up my thoughts on 2, at least for now, and we’ll see about jumping into the third installation at a later date. Read more…
I’m really enjoying this ‘gaming’ spin I’ve taken on this blog as of late. I hope you all haven’t hated it, because it is a unique outlet for me, and I’m glad to have it. And so, I’m going to be tackling Mass Effect 2 in bursts until I complete the game. I’ve been sort of blitzing through it, so for now I’ll just be talking about it in a sort of “here’s what I feel so far about it,” though I may shore it up at the end with a bigger series about the morality of the series, or perhaps the story-telling techniques. It will be no surprise to my friends that I am what many would call a “gamer.” Even readers of this blog should not be terribly surprised by this point. What I wanted to talk about today is not a particular game, but rather the way that gamers approach games. I have been considering it a bit recently, and thought my conclusions were a bit interesting. Rather than drawing direct personality-related conclusions, however, I will simply list the sorts of approaches I see people taking (myself included) to games. Note that these responses are not mutually exclusive, nor are they always adopted wholeheartedly; some people may agree with certain parts of a description and despise the others.
